About The Program
These services provide various ways to support the caregiver, who is often a family member, by giving a break from caregiving duties and allowing for self-care activities. These services are also referred to as respite care services and are provided as in-home respite or short-stay respite.
A personal care worker (PSW) or health care professional (e.g. nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist) will provide the following services:
- personal support for the person in need of care(e.g. oral care, bathing, dressing, assistance with medications, mobility)
- Homemaking services (e.g. cleaning, laundry, preparing meals)
- Professional healthcare services (e.g. nursing, physiotherapy)
The number of hours you can receive for respite care at home varies by service and your unique situation.
